Massage, the Donsol Way

A team of 7 from the Covenant Renewal Church and I, were in Donsol for a week of ministry at the Iam Redeemer and Master Evengelical Church (IRM). Ptr. Noel Belo, a relative of Dr. Vicky Belo, is the Pastor of IRM invited us.

Donsol is located in the Province of Sorsogon, in the Bicol region. The town's population is about 50,000 and is traditionally engaged in fishing and agriculture.

But Donsol is better known for its BUTANDING, a whale shark is the world's largest fish. The Butanding appear in Donsol's waters in considerable numbers between December and May of each year, taking advantage of dense food concentration. Tourists arrive in throngs because of these whale sharks.

The whale sharks arrival prompted the local community with interaction tours, and visitors now have the chance to swim alongside these majestic creatures. Unfortunately, we missed them when we were there.

But, we got a better deal. Ptr. Noel gave us the best hospitality and booked us at the Santiago Lodging house. The lodge is an old spanish house converted to a lodging house. Our stay there was relaxing and homy.

The best thing he did was when he gave us a relaxing massage, Donsol style. Ptr. Noel is an accredited Physical Therapist. He also imparted these art to his followers and they all gave us massage. Jomar, one of his disciples, treated me to a muscle wrenching, bone cracking yet relaxing massage. I was so relieved that he took out the "hangin" (air pockets) on my back. I felt relieved after that massage.

I also took photos of the other Spa shops around town.

I look forward to going back in time for the whale shark's arrival in January, 2012.

An array of Food and Massage

The first time I went to Wensha Spa, I didn't know what to expect. My friend, Ptr. Favor and his wife, Glo, brought us to this popular spa located in Pasay City, near the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The thing that really impressed me was the array of Chinese, Japanese and Korean food that was served. It was a feast! For P600++, you get to eat the smorgasbord (eat all you can) and then after resting you get your massage. The massage therapy was excellent.

My wife's favorite massage option is the hot stone. Because she does a lot of household chores, I treat her by way of a massage therapy. I did stone therapy ones and I liked it too. What it does is allow the heat from the stone to penetrate into the deep muscle tissues. Energizing Thai Massage

Wifey and I did something different last Sunday. We ventured into a thai massage shop we've seen being frequented on weekends. True to my expectation, we arrived and found no more parking space for our car. We have to settle, together with five other clients, for a parking near the St. Teresa's College. Of course, my wife got sentimental about the school because that's where she finished her secondary education.


So what am I talking about? 


For most of our massage experience, we normally get swedish or shiatsu massage. We are a regular customer of Rilassante Spa, our favorite spa center located in front of the National Orthopedic Hospital.


But, thai massage? We were excited to try something new. So, we went to one of the best but cheap thai massage center, Thewi Thai Massage  located along D. Tuazon St., in Quezon City.

It was a discovery as we cherish every minute of the massage. There I was together in a room with my wife. I put on the shorts but not the T-shirt because I was used to having nothing on top for the swedish massage. To my surprise, the therapist ask me to wear the t-shirt.


I was told that thai massage came to Thailand and was performed by the monks as one component of their thai medicine. I find the Thai Massage more rigorous and energizing than the more classic forms of massage. Thai massage is also called the Thai Yoga massage because the therapist uses her or his hands, knees, legs and feet to move me into a series of yoga-like stretches. They say Thai Massage is like doing yoga without any work. I feel very relaxed and my wife said it was calming, she almost fell asleep.

I think Thai massage works to put you to sleep. The client next to our room was snoring.


If you are in Quezon City, and you are looking for a very good and cheap Thai massage, the Thewi Thai Massage is one of the best! How cheap? P200 for an hour of relaxing, rejuvenating, energizing massage.


I think Thai massage will be part of my monthly spa treatment.
